D-Day 75 — Talking Benches

To mark 75 years since D-Day, I produced a pair of ‘talking benches’ for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, sited at Bayeux and Portsmouth. Sit down and the bench tells you the stories of the men who landed in Normandy, in their own voices — a quiet, unexpected place to stop and listen, on the … Continued

The Listening Exchange

In order to extend the life of the You The Audience project I came up with the concept of The Listening Exchange for The Royal Exchange Theatre. Designer Amanda Stoodley created the shed. The recordings made by Eloise Whitmore and me for You The Audience were remixed for this installation. Along the side of the … Continued

This worked by regularly sampling audio from the most recent media added to the site and creating a soundscape by mixing parts of that audio together, all automatically. With: Matthew Herbert

EEG Remote

I lead the development and testing of a brainwave (EEG) controlled TV remote control which allowed less able viewers to change the television channel up or down and turn the television on and off.

Social Listening Table

I designed and built the Social Listening Table for Manchester ad agency BJL — a reception centrepiece in copper pipe and filament bulbs that quietly eavesdropped on the internet. Every client the agency looked after got its own engraved nameplate and bulb — ASDA, Ronseal, Swinton, Metrolink, Lambrini, Beaverbrooks and the rest. Whenever one of … Continued
