The Listening Exchange

As part of You, The Audience, we have been capturing the ideas, passions, memories, dreams and demands of the Royal Exchange theatre audience – and using their voices, we have created an intimate sound installation. The Listening Exchange is found in the theatre foyer.

You the Audience

We designed and created a sound installation that brought old audio equipment back to life using recordings of the Royal Exchange audiences to weave a tapestry of stories together from their memories and thoughts about theatre.

We created an interactive music video using binaural surround sound. Microsoft wanted to capture the sound in binaural using the Lumia 930 for all the audio recording. We provided technical direction, prototyping, testing, field recordings and sound design. click for binaural music video

Animation Music and Sound Design

I wrote the music and worked with Eloise Whitmore on the sound design for these animations from Kilogramme for Manchester Metrolink. For one of the animations I had to create the sound of 2001 Space Odyssey using car and tram horns.

Sparklab website

I designed and built the Sparklab Productions website, providing them with a simple to use CMS so they can build and add content to the site in the future.

The Listening Exchange

In order to extend the life of the You The Audience project I came up with the concept of The Listening Exchange for The Royal Exchange Theatre. Designer Amanda Stoodley created the shed. Thames Water Radio

I created a radio receiver that used River Thames estuary water as an antenna for a piece of audio artwork by Cathy Fitzgerald. The receiver used a pump to fire the water up into a perspex tube.
